Heisman Coin Flip

14 December 2008

Sam Bradford is a deserved winner of the 74th Heisman. This much I believe can’t be disputed. Bradford accumulated Techmo Bowl-esk stats including 48 passing touchdowns with only 6 interceptions and 4,464 yards. On top of that, he led the Oklahoma Sooners to scoring over 60 points in the last five games of the season. Only twice did the Sooners not score forty, as TCU and Texas held them to a miserable thirty-five points in each game.

Get the picture? If not, let me make it clear. The Sooners offense, led by Bradford, was pretty much unstoppable all year. Even in that loss to Texas, he still had 5 touchdowns. This just in…he’s good.

A case can be made for Texas’ Colt McCoy or Florida’s Tim Tebow and often has throughout the season. Both McCoy and Tebow were the sexier picks due to McCoy’s stats with not much of a supporting cast and Tebow’s mancrushes. (i.e. see Announcer’s that cover his games. It’s actually pretty ridiculous how much he’s loved by all in the world of football. Yes, I realize nothing can be as good Tebow, but the ooohhh’s and aaahhh’s are pretty creepy Kurt Herbstreet. But who’s naming names?)

McCoy led the nation in pass efficiency with 77.6 percent, while adding 32 touchdowns of his own and only throwing 7 interceptions. He also was Texas’ leading rusher. McCoy’s case could be made soley due to his lack of help. Many discussions have taken place on how McCoy did more with less than any of the other three candidates.

And, who could argue with Tim Tebow? He won the Heisman last year, and it seems as if nothing can be said by a sportscaster without drooling over him. Does every announcer have a mancrush on Mr. Tebow or what? It’s scary really.

Congrats Sam. You deserved it. But I don’t oohh and aahhh, so a simple “good job” will have to do.
