The Russian Infantry
24 September 2008Roman Pavlyuchenko – Tottenham’s new signing - didn’t seem to think training sessions in the English Premier League were going to be very tough. Boy, was he wrong.
Pavlyuchenko, stated “I can’t do this. I thought it would be a lot easier.”
Let me get this straight. During training last week, Pav almost quit on his training session because he couldn’t handle it? Imagine that, a soccer player from Russia comes to England and didn’t think that the training was going to be that difficult. What was he expecting?
Pavlyuchenko was quoted: “I looked at my watch and saw that the training session had gone on for exactly two hours! Then another half an hour in the gym! Two and a half hours! Can you imagine that?”
I’m sorry, but he can’t be serious! He actually didn’t expect training to be difficult? Did they not train in Russia? When I was in High School in the non-soccer crazed United States, we trained for 2 hours. I don’t get it.
One positive to come out of this strange situation is that Pavlyuchenko seems to have adjusted and enjoys himself at White Hart Lane. His new life in England is a bit of a whirl-wind for him at the moment is seems.
“White Hart lane is crazy!” Pav said. “I don’t even know how to describe it. You go out for a game and you get goosebumps. The field is like a snooker table - it’s super! The fans sing, yell, and stand up and applaud. They don’t even need goals… running, battling for the ball… that’s what the English love.”
Well, I’m glad he’s enjoying himself. Let’s just hope that he never has to play in a game that goes into overtime. I mean, do they not have that in Russia either?
